NSK Bearing Application Guidelines and Maintenance Procedures

NSK imported bearings, in addition to their exceptional quality, are highly precision components. As high-performance bearings, improper use during operation not only fails to achieve the expected performance but also readily leads to bearing damage. We must all be mindful of lubrication requirements.

Bearing Usage Guidelines:

1. Exercise utmost care during installation and handling. Avoid forceful impact, vertical hammering, or transmitting pressure through the rolling elements.

2. Employ suitable, precise installation tools. Prioritise specialised equipment and minimise use of cloth or short-fibre materials.

3. Maintain cleanliness of bearings and surrounding areas. Even microscopic dust particles can accelerate wear, vibration, and noise.

The layman observes the fundamentals: how does the industry enhance NSK bearings' corrosion resistance?

4. Prevent rusting. When handling bearings directly, thoroughly wash hands of any liquids and apply high-quality mineral oil before operation. Exercise particular caution against rust during rainy seasons and summer months. Under specific operating conditions, NSK bearings can achieve service lives superior to traditional calculations, especially under light loads.

These specific operating conditions arise when the rolling surfaces (raceways and rolling elements) are effectively separated by a lubricating oil film, thereby restricting potential surface damage caused by contaminants. Indeed, under ideal conditions, so-called perpetual bearing life becomes feasible.

Naturally, maintenance remains indispensable during NSK bearing operation. Should NSK bearings operate without proper upkeep, particularly when using water-soluble cutting fluids, water may corrode metal surfaces. This compromises bearing lubrication, potentially causing machine tool or mechanical malfunctions with significant consequences. Thus, NSK bearing maintenance is imperative.

NSK Bearing Maintenance Procedures:

1. Maintain Lubrication and Cleanliness

Prior to inspection, clean the bearing surface thoroughly before disassembling components. Exercise particular caution with oil seals, as these are fragile components. Avoid excessive force during inspection and disassembly to prevent damage to bearing parts. Should the oil seals on the bearing or surrounding components exhibit signs of deterioration during inspection, replace them promptly to prevent bearing damage.

2. Ensure Lubricant Quality

Many instances of premature bearing failure, beyond other factors, stem from inadequate lubricant quality. Inspect the NSK bearing lubricant: Rub a small amount between two fingers; any contaminants will be detectable. Alternatively, apply a thin layer to the back of your hand and examine its sheen. Replace the lubricant if necessary.

3. NSK Bearing Operating Environment

Ensure NSK bearings are not exposed to environmental contaminants or moisture. Should the preceding two points apply, cover the machinery with plastic or similar protective sheeting. The bearing's operating environment is crucial; many imported bearings fail prematurely due to inadequate environmental conditions.

4. NSK Bearing Seals

The purpose of bearing seals: to prevent dust, water, and contaminants from entering the bearing while also retaining lubricant. Effective sealing ensures machinery operates smoothly, reduces noise, and extends component lifespan.
